How Plotpost works

Plotpost turns data or a question into an editorial data poster. Email it a spreadsheet, a PDF, a photo of a chart, or a plain question, and a sourced poster usually comes back in about a minute.

Ask with a question or a file

Email hello@plotpost.app with a spreadsheet, a PDF, a photo of a chart, or a plain question. You can also type it on plotpost.app. Most posters are back in about a minute.

Where the facts come from

Plotpost pulls its facts from these sources:

  • Cala, a fact-retrieval service
  • SEC EDGAR filings, for company numbers
  • BLS, for CPI, PPI and jobs
  • FRED, for market and economic series
  • BLS average prices, for what eggs, coffee, beef, milk and other groceries cost each month
  • Census Monthly Retail Trade, for sales at grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, online sellers and more
  • USDA NASS, for the prices farmers receive for eggs, milk, grain and livestock, and how much they harvest. A farm price is compared with a store price only for products Plotpost has matched by unit, and a wording check holds any headline that calls the gap a markup or compares mismatched units
  • Your attachment, if you send one

Every fact on a poster page links to its source. Lines marked “news:” print only confirmed claims. If Plotpost can’t find a number, it doesn’t print one, and the reply says so.

Krea makes the illustrations. If illustration is unavailable, the poster still prints, with a ready-made illustration.

Public and private posters

Every public poster gets a numbered page, like plotpost.app/p/42. The page has the headline claim as text, the facts with their source links, and the data rows. Public posters also hang on a live wall and in a 3D gallery.

To keep a poster private, start your email subject with “private:”. It prints as P-0001, stays off the wall and out of search, and you can switch the link off.

Your own numbers

Attach a profit and loss export from QuickBooks or Xero, a Stripe balance export or a Shopify sales report, or paste a link to a Google Sheet shared with “anyone with the link”. Plotpost reads it as it is, and every fact on the poster names the file and row it came from, like “pnl.csv, row 19”. Stripe exports are added up by month for you.

Business data prints as a private poster by default. To put it on the public wall, start the subject with “public:”.

Check a company’s story

Email hello@plotpost.app with a subject that starts “check:” and the company’s name, and attach a deck or list the claims in the email. Plotpost reads the company’s SEC filings, including private fundraising notices (Form D), small-company financials (Reg CF and Reg A), earnings releases and insider trades, and marks each claim: matches the record, differs from it, or not found in filings. Every verdict quotes the filing and links to it. The result is private, and the deck isn’t kept.

Send an investor update

Email update@plotpost.app, or start the subject with “update:” and the company name, and attach your monthly or quarterly numbers. Add a logo, or your website in the body, if you want the posters in your colors.

Plotpost picks the four to six stories the numbers can support and prints them as private posters on one report page, with one link to share. Every figure names the file and row it came from and is marked “Company-reported, unaudited.” Common figures the file doesn’t contain are listed as left off, never estimated. Where the file contradicts itself, the page shows both numbers.

To revise, reply in the same thread, like “lead with doors.” The new edition goes up under the same link, and investors see it once it’s finished. The reply also includes a private manage link. From it you can switch the link off, set an expiry, send the report to investors and see who has viewed it, copy embed codes for a newsletter, download the posters, and delete the files you sent.

Updates can run monthly or quarterly. Turn on a schedule from the manage link and Plotpost emails you when the next numbers are due; reply with the file. Each new update opens on what moved since the last one, every measure charts each period you sent, and a missed month shows as a gap. Investors keep one link that always opens on the latest, with every earlier update listed. Plotpost can send each new update to your saved investor list two hours after it prints, unless you hold it.

Your desk

Email “my desk” to hello@plotpost.app and a link comes back to one private page with everything that address has set up: investor updates, standing orders, tripwires, watches, private posters and follows. Pause, change or cancel each one there, or stop every email Plotpost sends you at once. The link lasts 7 days; email “my desk” again for a fresh one.

A watch can be saved under a name: email “watch: Santander, BBVA as Spanish banks”. Then “add Sabadell to Spanish banks”, “drop BBVA from Spanish banks” or “run Spanish banks” edit and rerun it by email, and the Monday sheet always uses the list as it stands.

Posters that print on their own

  • Company pages (plotpost.app/c/TICKER) build posters from SEC numbers.
  • Release Day prints CPI, PPI and jobs numbers within minutes of release.
  • The Daily Front Page picks the day’s biggest data story every morning at 7am Eastern.
  • The Watch Desk grades company news and SEC filings as Quiet, Notable or Material. It covers up to 8 companies and 10 topics. It is for information only, not a compliance determination.

FAQ

What is Plotpost?
Plotpost is a service that turns data or a question into an editorial data poster. You email it a spreadsheet, a PDF, a photo of a chart, or a plain question, or type it on plotpost.app.
Where does Plotpost get its facts?
Plotpost uses Cala (a fact-retrieval service), SEC EDGAR filings for company numbers, BLS for CPI, PPI, jobs and average grocery prices, the Census Bureau for retail sales, USDA NASS for the prices farmers receive and what they harvest, and FRED for market and economic series. It also uses any attachment you send. Every fact on a poster page links to its source.
What does Plotpost do when it can’t find a number?
It doesn’t print the claim. Plotpost won’t publish anything it can’t source, and the reply says which number it couldn’t find. Lines marked “news:” print only confirmed claims.
How long does a poster take?
Plotpost usually sends the poster back in about a minute.
Can I change how my poster looks?
Yes. Most posters come back with two other looks, the same facts drawn another way, such as a line chart instead of columns. Tap one in the email, or reply B or C, and that look replaces the poster on the wall and at its link. Reply A to go back. The choices show to anyone holding the asker’s email link, which works for 30 days. A look is locked while a duel or round vote is on, and for good once the poster is crowned, wins a duel or earns a title.
Can I make a poster private?
Yes. Start your email subject with “private:”. Plotpost prints it as P-0001 and keeps it off the wall and out of search. You can also switch the link off.
Can I make a poster from my own business numbers?
Yes. Attach a QuickBooks or Xero profit and loss, a Stripe or Shopify export, or link a Google Sheet shared with anyone who has the link. Each number on the poster names the file and row it came from, and business data prints privately unless the subject starts with “public:”.
Can Plotpost check a company’s claims?
Yes. Email hello@plotpost.app with a subject starting “check:” and the company name, plus a deck or the claims. Plotpost checks each claim against the company’s SEC filings and marks it as matching the record, differing from it, or not found. The result is private.
Can Plotpost make an investor update?
Yes. Email update@plotpost.app with your monthly or quarterly numbers, or start the subject with “update:” and the company name. Plotpost prints four to six private posters on one report page you can share with investors, in your colors if you add a logo or website. Every figure cites its file and row and is marked company-reported and unaudited. Anything the file doesn’t cover is listed as left off, not estimated.
How do I see or stop everything Plotpost sends me?
Email “my desk” to hello@plotpost.app. Plotpost replies with a private link, good for 7 days, to one page listing every update, order, watch, private poster and follow your address has set up, where you can pause or cancel each one or stop them all.
Is Plotpost free, and can AI agents use it?
Plotpost is free to use. Agents such as Claude and Cursor can request posters through an MCP connector.
Who built Plotpost?
Alicia Dahling (dahlingconsulting.com) built it. It started at the Krea x Cala Creative Data Hackathon in San Francisco in October 2026.
